Parkway Elementary School and Meadowbrook Elementary School held their first Family Coding Nights during the week of January 27. Parents worked alongside their children to participate in coding challenges using the computer literacy program Scratch.

At Parkway, Woodland and W.T. Clarke Middle School Metamorphosis students joined their teacher, Mr. Alex Abanavas. Ms. Jamie Mack welcomed attendees and Mr. Abanavas introduced the subject of coding and how it is used every day. The students and Mr. Abanavas then guided the parents and students through the coding process. At Meadowbrook, Ms. Kelly Di Sclafani and Ms. Meredith Broxmeyer welcomed attendees while Mr. Jim Mendonis, Director of Social Studies and 21st Century Learning, introduced the subject of coding and how it is used every day. KidOYO representatives were in attendance to guide participants through their coding experience.

The district looks forward to hosting more Family Coding Nights like this in the future. Special thanks to Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Dave Cassamento, Director of Literacy Frank Lukasik and Director of Social Studies and 21st Century Learning Jim Mendonis for their help in organizing and attending both of these great events.
