The East Meadow School District held a virtual workshop, “Coping and Balancing” in partnership with the PTA Curriculum Council’s Project ACCESS (A Community Committed to Educating Students for Success). David Hymowitz, a social worker from the Nassau County Department of Human Services, educated attendees on managing emotions, expressing feelings and creating a routine to stay healthy during these unprecedented times.

Mr. Hymowitz led the discussion, encouraging participants to share their personal experiences. He pointed out key differences between the current crisis and others, noting the larger impact on humanity due to the global scale. He also discussed helpful ways for students, parents and educators to manage stress and anxiety.

The East Meadow School District has been conducting mental health webinars with different focuses for staff throughout the school closure due to COVID-19 and particularly during the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.
