Two students from the East Meadow School District were selected as National Merit Semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The district congratulates East Meadow High School senior John Meah and W.T. Clarke High School senior Jonathan Melkun.

A total of 16,000 U.S. semifinalists have been identified out of an initial pool of 1.6 million U.S. students who took last year’s PSAT/NMSQT, a qualifying test. Now, they will each contend for finalist titles, with the prospect of eventually earning one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million.

This year’s semifinalists scored in the top one percent nationally on the exam. Winners of the National Merit Scholarships will be named this spring.
