The district celebrated Board of Education Recognition Week at the monthly board meeting on Oct. 16. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth A. Card, Jr. lauded the seven-member board for all of their hard work and dedication in serving the students, staff and district community. Each Board member received a special plaque as a thank you for their service.

“This is that time of year where we get to celebrate our Board of Education,” Dr. Card said. “Once a year, even though we should do this each and every day, we have an opportunity to thank them for their service to our community. These men and women sitting in front of you devote countless hours to make sure our schools are helping every child learn at the highest level.”

As a tradition in the district, the two newest Board members, trustees Allyson Benowitz and Dr. Jodi Luce, were presented with their official Board of Education portraits. Ms. Benowitz’s plaque was created by W.T. Clarke High School’s Paola Duque, a senior in Jane Pawlowski’s Studio in Art 3 class. Dr. Luce’s portrait was created by Sarah Said, a sophomore in Ingo Pranggenberg’s Studio in Art 2 class. Following the Board meeting, both portraits were hung outside the Board room at the Salisbury Center.

The District wishes to thank all of the Board members for their dedication to the community and the children of East Meadow and Salisbury.
