East Meadow Student-Athletes Compete in NYSPHSAA Championships   

The district congratulated the following student-athletes who competed in New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships in their respective sports. The district is very proud of their athletic prowess and dedication to excellence in the classroom and on the field.  
 
Seven East Meadow High School students competed in the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island on March 3. This year’s qualifiers were Rachel Rose, Katherine Marsh, Isabel Marsh and Alexia Moustakas in the 4x800 relay; Brandon Love in pole vault; John Meah 1600 distance medley relay; and Sarah Son in the race walk.

Senior Shawn Regan from East Meadow High School, W.T. Clarke High School sophomore Karl Bouyer and W.T. Clarke Middle School eighth-grader Jordan Soriano competed in the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships in Albany on Feb. 23 and 24. Shawn and Jordan both placed sixth in their respective weight classes. All three student-athletes were also named Nassau County Champions in wrestling. 

For the second consecutive year, the East Meadow High School varsity cheerleading team won the Nassau County Championship, earning the chance to compete at the NYSPHSAA Cheerleading Championship at the SRC Arena and Events Center at Onondaga Community College on March 3. The squad also competed in the 2018 Universal Cheerleaders Association National High School Cheerleading Championship, held in Orlando, Florida, in February. The team earned a bid in December at the Empire Regional Championship at Nassau Community College, qualifying them for nationals.

Two members of the district combined swim team – W.T. Clarke High School sophomores Justin Lopez and Min Chun – competed at the NYSPHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow on March 2 and 3. Justin competed in the 200 medley and 100 breaststroke, while Min swam in the 500 freestyle.  
 

Helping Others Through The Love Of Sports 

Members of the girls volleyball and boys basketball teams at Woodland Middle School put their love for sports into practice as they raised $325 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 

The seventh- and eighth-grade student-athletes participated in a round-robin volleyball tournament on Jan. 11, where teams played each other for five minutes in elimination rounds until two final teams were set to play.
 
A special thank-you to girls volleyball coaches Patty Burnside and Alexa Borresen and boys basketball coach Michael Magee for organizing this charitable effort. 

W.T. Clarke Rams Defeat Division Avenue Dragons

The W.T. Clarke High School Rams boys varsity basketball team defeated the Division Avenue High School Dragons, 49-40, at Nassau Coliseum on Dec. 23. 

East Meadow Seniors Receive Zone Awards

East Meadow High School seniors Nickola Pavon and Sara Polansky and W.T. Clarke High School seniors Carlo Ritaccio and Elizabeth Silverman received the Nassau Zone Award for demonstrating superior leadership and physical education skills. 

Sponsored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the award recognizes one male and one female high school senior from each school district in Nassau County who exemplifies outstanding scholastic ability, physical education performance and leadership qualities. 

The district congratulates these four seniors on receiving this prestigious honor.
