Bowling Green Virtual Talent Show

main thumbnail169443
Bowling Green Elementary School held a virtual talent show for English as a New Language and reading students on May 14. ENL teacher Jaclyn Goldstein was inspired by a student who showed off his guitar skills during a virtual meeting when schools first closed.

“Many of our students have talents, but never had the opportunity to share them with their peers,” said Goldstein. “That was when I realized this was a silver lining for distance learning.” Goldstein and fellow Bowling Green ENL and reading teachers Eleni Batanchiev, Melissa Diamond, Kaitlin Keenan and Jennifer Roman collaborated and planned a virtual talent show for their students.

Prior to the show, Goldstein made safe, socially distant visits to her students’ homes to deliver popcorn, a certificate of participation and special trophies. Students then participated virtually via Google Meet, with classmates, teachers and administrators serving as the audience. From dancing to video gaming, the students shared their talents, connecting with one another in a meaningful way.
