This year, two East Meadow High School students, both earning Multimedia Career & Technical Education diploma endorsements and students within the school’s Academy of Finance, qualified as New York State Microsoft Office Specialist champions.
High school students Jeremy Goldstein and Tristan Pesqueira were selected to compete at the Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship in Dallas, Texas alongside students from all over the country. Goldstein competed in Microsoft Word and Pesqueira competed in Microsoft PowerPoint. The Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship, presented by Certiport, is a competition that tests students’ abilities across the Microsoft Office Suite. Pesqueira was awarded a phenomenal first place at the competition being the gold medal and trophy winner in his category.
Pesqueira also won a $3,000 scholarship, a Microsoft Surface ProX laptop, and is now eligible to compete in the MOS World Championship in Anaheim, California next month. The East Meadow School District is extremely proud of these students as well as all the students within the East Meadow Business Microsoft Office certification program. This year, teachers within the program have had more than 200 exams passed and counting, with all students becoming Microsoft Office Specialists and many gaining multiple certifications. Additionally, many students within this program have attained the “expert” level.
Goldstein was the first student in the district’s history to qualify for this competition in the fall round, while Pesqueira was the first to ever medal at the national level. The district wishes Pesqueira the best of luck in the World Championship.
