On Nov. 10, kindergartners at Parkway Elementary School in East Meadow immersed themselves in a hands-on learning experience as part of their Five Senses Unit.
The classroom was filled with curiosity and excitement as students rotated through a series of interactive stations designed to help them explore the world through sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. Working in small groups, students used their sense of sight to search for hidden objects using magnifying glasses, and their sense of hearing to shake small pumpkins and guess the mystery sounds inside. Their sense of taste was tested as they sampled foods that were salty, sweet, sour, and bitter, while their sense of touch came alive as they decorated scarecrows with textured fabric patches.
At the smell stations, students used scented markers to create colorful drawings and tried to identify the mystery scents inside closed containers. Throughout the day, they took notes and shared their observations, using their senses as scientists and explorers would.
The activity brought the kindergarten curriculum to life, helping students make real-world connections while having fun and learning together.
