Students in Mrs. Keicher and Ms. Iovieno’s class at Barnum Woods Elementary School in East Meadow recently had a fun and engaging experience bringing the story “The Great Race” to life through classroom acting activities.
As part of their learning, students took on different roles from the story and acted out scenes, turning reading time into an interactive performance. The activity helped students better understand the characters and events in the book while encouraging creativity and teamwork.
The excitement doesn’t stop in the classroom. Soon, all second grade students at Barnum Woods will take a field trip to the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at Long Island University Post, where they will see “The Great Race” come to life on stage in a live theatrical performance.
The experience connects classroom learning with the performing arts, giving students the opportunity to see how stories they read can be transformed into live productions.
