Students working on elaborate project together.

Innovation was on full display in the East Meadow School District as W.T. Clarke Middle School and W.T. Clarke High School were transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and discovery for its annual STEAM Night on March 18.

Students and families from across the district came together to celebrate hands-on, 21st-century learning through an evening filled with exploration and imagination. Under the coordination of Debra Harley, the district’s director of math and science, elementary students in grades K-5 engaged in more than 40 interactive activities designed to spark curiosity across the fields of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

From coding Ozobot robots and engineering towering cup structures to designing paper chains and crafting musical instruments from everyday objects, students were immersed in experiences that blended creativity with critical thinking. Budding engineers built 2D and 3D models using toothpicks and marshmallows, while young artists experimented with magnet painting to create unique works of art.

The success of the evening was made possible by the collective efforts of more than 65 dedicated teachers and over 50 high school student volunteers, whose enthusiasm and guidance helped bring each activity to life.

STEAM Night continues to serve as a cornerstone event for the district, highlighting its commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration and a lifelong love of learning.
