The New York City-based a cappella group Backtrack Vocals recently visited Woodland Middle School in East Meadow, where they delivered an engaging and educational experience for student singers.
The visit brought together members of the Woodland Vocal Jazz choir, the District A Cappella choir, and the W.T. Clarke Middle School Chamber Singers for a unique musical event. Backtrack Vocals began by performing a selection of pieces that showcased their dynamic vocal arrangements, tight harmonies, and impressive beatboxing skills. Following their performance, they led an interactive workshop designed to give students hands-on experience with contemporary a cappella techniques. The session included instruction in beatboxing, pop vocal styles, and strategies for blending and balance within an ensemble.
A highlight of the visit was when the Woodland Vocal Jazz choir performed a piece from their upcoming spring concert. The students then received direct feedback from the professional singers, who offered constructive insights on musicality, expression, and ensemble cohesion. The event provided both inspiration and practical guidance, Woodland’s students motivated and better equipped to refine their craft.
