The East Meadow School District’s music department was honored to receive a $1,177 donation during the Board of Education meeting held on May 13 at the Salisbury School.

The contribution was presented by James Walsh, Vice Grand of Mineola Pacific Lodge #125 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), in memory of Musician Second Class Oran Merrill Brabbzson, an East Meadow resident and U.S. Navy musician who lost his life aboard the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The donation recognizes Brabbzson’s service and legacy while also supporting the district’s ongoing commitment to music education.

“This tribute serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans and of the important role that music plays in preserving their stories for future generations,” said Dr. Kelly Nixon, the district’s director of music and art.

The East Meadow School District extends its appreciation to Mineola Pacific Lodge #125 for its meaningful gift and for helping ensure that the memory of local service members continues to be honored through educational programming.
