On July 22, Broadway performer Linedy Genao, best known for originating the title role in “Bad Cinderella” on Broadway, visited the East Meadow Summer Music Program for a day of performance, education, and artistic collaboration.
Ms. Genao performed selections from her concert, “Songs from My Sala”, for all students participating in the summer program at East Meadow High School. Accompanied by a talented six-piece band, she shared music that celebrated her Hispanic heritage while exploring pop, musical theater, and a variety of contemporary musical styles. Her dynamic performance provided students with an engaging and inspiring live concert experience.
Following the performance, Ms. Genao conducted a masterclass with the program’s musical theater students. Participants had the opportunity to perform for a Broadway professional and receive individualized feedback on their vocal and performance techniques. The session also included an interactive question-and-answer discussion, during which Ms. Genao shared her personal journey to Broadway, discussed the importance of perseverance and authenticity in the performing arts, and offered valuable advice to aspiring young performers.
The visit was an exceptional educational experience that gave students meaningful exposure to a successful professional artist. Through both performance and mentorship, Ms. Genao inspired students to continue developing their musical talents while fostering a deeper appreciation for the power of music, storytelling, and cultural expression.
