The East Meadow School District proudly honored local veterans during the Board of Education’s Nov. 4 meeting at the Salisbury School, continuing a meaningful tradition of recognizing those who have served our country. The special tribute brought together district leaders and members of the East Meadow community to express their gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by local veterans.
Several veterans from American Legion Post 1082 in East Meadow attended the meeting, where district administrators recognized them with heartfelt thank-you cards and gifts created by students from all five of the district’s elementary schools. Through their thoughtful messages and handmade gifts, students shared their appreciation for the men and women whose service has helped protect the freedoms they enjoy today.
“Each message was written with appreciation and respect,” said Dr. Kelly Nixon, the district's director of music and art. “We hope these cards serve as a small, but helpful reminder that your service is valued, your sacrifices are remembered, and your contributions continue to be appreciated.”
Dr. Nixon also shared her pride in the East Meadow High School Jets Marching Band, which will represent the district when it performs in the 2026 New York City Veterans Day Parade. The band's participation offers another meaningful opportunity for East Meadow students to honor veterans and take part in a national tradition of remembrance and gratitude.
“It gives me pleasure every year to invite our veterans to the November Board of Education meeting,” said Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Rosner, whose father was a World War II veteran. “Thank you for everything that you continue to do for our community.”
The district is proud to recognize its local veterans and remains grateful for the opportunity to celebrate their service, honor their sacrifices and ensure that future generations understand the importance of their contributions. Through the involvement of students, staff and community members, this special tradition serves as a reminder that gratitude for our veterans is something to be shared throughout the year.
