Welcome back to another amazing school year!  The students and staff are excited to share all of the wonderful things that have happened during our first month of the 2025-2026 school year!

The kindergarten teachers would like to thank the parents of their kindergarten students for a successful supply drop-off day. The teachers were able to meet their adorable children before school began and show them to their classrooms.  Throughout the month of September, the children have been working on rules, routines, and getting to know one another. They will be diving into some common September themes such as learning: All About Me, their names, birthdays, names of colors, numbers, how to be a good friend, how to show kindness, and facts about apples.  In their CKLA reading program, they are excited to learn about nursery rhymes in their nursery rhyme unit.  They will have a fun culminating activity next month.  Mrs. Black is beginning her social emotional guidance lessons in each classroom, and Mrs. Bradley is introducing Chromebooks to the children.

First grade students had a wonderful start to the new school year!  They have settled into their new routines with enthusiasm. The first few weeks have been filled with fun get-to-know-you games and activities, helping them to build welcoming classroom communities and encouraging the children to form new friendships.  The children were happy to attend a meaningful 9/11 ceremony.  As first grade transitions into fall, they are excited to engage in a variety of seasonal activities that celebrate this beautiful time of the year.  A special thank you to the PTA for the beautiful welcome breakfast. It was truly appreciated by all! They would also like to thank you for the decorative lawn signs displayed during our first few days. The children were so excited to see them and loved posing for photos. They are looking forward to an amazing year filled with learning, laughter, and lots of first-grade adventures!

Second grade has had a great start to the beginning of the school year and are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead. They have adjusted to the rules and routines for this school year and have made some new friends in the classes. They have been learning about place value with their new math program and are finishing up their first ELA study of fairytales and tall tales.

The third graders had a wonderful start to the school year! They are excited about new units of study and learning about interesting content that third grade delivers.  Currently, they are enjoying The Wind in the Willows in CKLA and finishing a math chapter on addition, place value and rounding.  The teachers are looking forward to a productive year!

Fourth Grade knows “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”, so the fourth grade hallway has been transformed into a football field of learning! Students are “huddling up” with classmates, “passing” ideas back and forth, and getting ready to “tackle” their goals this year. This theme reminds us that every player is an important part of the team — and together, we can go the distance.  In math, the students are diving into place value and learning to work with numbers up to one million; a key skill that will set the stage for multi-digit operations later this year.  Their focus in science is structure, function, and information processing. Students are exploring how the structures of living things help them survive and how information is processed in plants and animals.  In ELA, the children are beginning their personal narrative unit, helping students find their voice as authors while developing strong writing habits.  In social studies, the classes are learning about the geography of New York, and studying maps and landforms to understand our state’s regions.  In honor of Patriot Day, students created a special 9/11 remembrance quilt. Each student designed a square to represent themes of unity, resilience, and hope. The quilts are displayed in the fourth grade classrooms as a tribute to all who showed courage on that day.  The fourth grade teachers are so proud of how quickly their students have embraced the new year and can’t wait to see all the “touchdowns” they score in learning this fall!

As part of their "Little Worlds" writing project, fifth grade students each chose a meaningful word to guide them through the school year. In their writing, they explained why they selected that word and how they plan to use it to inspire their actions and mindset throughout the year.  Following the Patriot Day lesson in social studies, students reflected on the idea of heroism by identifying a personal hero in their own lives. They highlighted three key qualities that make this person heroic and explained why those traits are essential in a hero.  In ELA, students are exploring personal narrative writing by reflecting on meaningful moments from their lives. They are learning how to turn these experiences into well-structured, engaging stories.

On behalf of all the teachers we would like to thank the PTA for a delicious and thoughtful Welcome Back Breakfast.  We would also like to thank our amazing PTA for donating the awesome agenda books for grades 3-5. We certainly look forward to a great year in collaboration with all of you!
