We're off to a great school year!
A message from our Kindergarten Teachers:
The Kindergarten teachers would like to thank all of our wonderful parents for making the Supply Drop-Off Day such a success! It was a joy to meet our adorable students before school began and welcome them into our classrooms. The teachers loved introducing everyone to their new learning environment and beginning this exciting journey together! Throughout the month of September, they have been working hard on learning the rules and routines while getting to know one another. They will also be exploring some fun and important September themes, including All About Me, our names and birthdays, colors, numbers, friendship, kindness, and facts about apples. In the CKLA reading program, they are excited to begin our Nursery Rhymes Unit. The children will enjoy learning and exploring a variety of familiar rhymes, and we are looking forward to a fun culminating activity next month! They are also excited to welcome Mrs. Black, our guidance counselor, who is beginning her Social-Emotional Guidance lessons in each classroom. Mrs. Bradley, technology trainer, will soon be introducing the children to Chromebooks, adding another exciting element to their learning experience. The Kindergarten team is looking forward to a wonderful and exciting school year filled with learning, laughter, friendship, and many special memories! Thank you again to all of our Kindergarten parents for your continued support, and a special thank-you to the PTA for the delicious Welcome Back lunch!
A message from our 1st Grade Teachers:
First grade had a wonderful start to the new school year! The students have settled into their new routines with enthusiasm and excitement. During these first few weeks, the children have participated in engaging get-to-know-you activities, formed new friendships, and worked together to build welcoming and supportive classroom communities. They also wrote their own goals for first grade, setting positive intentions for a successful school year. As we welcome the fall season, the students are looking forward to a variety of seasonal activities that will make this time of year memorable.
A special thank you to the PTA for the incredible welcome luncheon. It was appreciated by all! First grade would also like to thank you for the beautiful decorative lawn signs displayed during our first few days.
They are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead. Thank you for helping us make the beginning of the school year so special!
A message from our 2nd Grade Teachers:
Second grade has enjoyed adjusting to a new school year and looks forward to all the things they will accomplish this school year. They have started learning about place value with our math curriculum. They have studied fairy tales and tall tales and are able to explain important elements of each story. They are excited to start STEM and computer classes this week. The second grade faculty thanks the PTA for a delicious lunch on our first day back!
A message from our 3rd Grade Teachers:
The third-grade teachers have loved welcoming their new students and are enjoying getting to know each of them! The students were so excited to receive their school planners and are looking forward to using them each day to keep track of their homework and assignments.
They would like to thank our third-grade parents for their continued support. A special thank you to the PTA for treating us to a delicious back-to-school luncheon—third grade teachers truly enjoyed it!
They are looking forward to working together with the PTA this year and are excited for all the wonderful events and experiences that are ahead. We can’t wait to make this a fantastic school year for our third graders!
A message from our 4th Grade Teachers:
The fourth graders are settling into the routines and expectations of fourth grade! This year, the fourth-grade theme is TEAMWORK. Students are learning that by collaborating, sharing ideas, encouraging one another, and working together, they can accomplish things that may feel challenging on their own. Their eagerness to learn and support one another is helping create a positive, enthusiastic, and energized classroom environment.
To reinforce the theme of teamwork, the students were challenged to set one learning goal and one personal goal for themselves to work toward throughout the school year. To make the connection between teamwork and reaching our goals, students wrote their goals on football cutouts. Just as a touchdown is achieved through teamwork, communication, and every player doing their part, our students are learning that reaching their goals takes effort, perseverance, and support from the people around them.
The fourth-grade students also completed an All About Me project, highlighting the people, interests, experiences, and special qualities that make each student unique. This activity gave classmates an opportunity to learn more about one another and helped strengthen the connections that make our classroom teams successful.
In honor of Patriot Day, each fourth-grade class focused on the heroes and helpers who bring light into the world during difficult times. Each student created a message of hope, positivity, and gratitude on a small piece of paper. The individual pieces were carefully put together to create a class quilt, which will serve as a beautiful reminder that heroes never die and that we should always look for the helpers and heroes in our lives.
The students also attended the Barnum Woods 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, which made their quilts even more meaningful and special.
The fourth-grade team would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the PTA for the wonderful Back-to-School lunch! We truly appreciate your kindness, generosity, and continued support of our teachers and students.
A message from our 5th Grade Teachers:
The fifth grade students have done an amazing job adapting to classroom procedures and routines. In remembrance of 9/11, students explored the many qualities that make someone a hero, such as courage, kindness, selflessness, and perseverance. Students then brainstormed a hero in their own lives and wrote a personal reflection describing their hero and the qualities that make them special. Through this meaningful activity, students were reminded that heroes can be found all around us—in our families, schools, and communities.
A message from our Music Department:
Chorus, 5th grade Band, and 5th grade Orchestra will begin rehearsals on 9/22 and 9/23, respectively. Arrival time is between 7:45-7:55am with rehearsals starting promptly at 8am.
On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff, we would like to extend a huge thank you to our amazing PTA for donating the homework planners for grades 3-5. We appreciate the PTA covering the cost of these awesome planners, and we know they will be put to good use throughout the year!
On behalf of the entire faculty, I would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the PTA for the incredible Welcome Back lunch, complete with our very own Dirty Soda Station! It was truly a wonderful way to start the school year and made each of us feel so appreciated and special.
We are incredibly grateful for your thoughtfulness and look forward to partnering with the PTA throughout the year to make this an amazing school year for our entire Barnum Woods school community!
