Each school day begins with students standing together to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, fostering a sense of unity and respect throughout the school community. With hands over their hearts, they start the day by honoring tradition and reflecting on shared values. This simple yet meaningful routine sets a positive tone for the day, reminding students of their responsibility to their school, country, and one another as they embark on another day of learning and growth.

The ninth installment of the Mighty Minds of McVey is focusing on the more mathematically motivated Mighty Minds. Let's all give an Einsteinian sized hooray to the following students (unless you prefer Sir Isaac Newton, then a Newtonian sized hooray would suit you better): Gabriella, Emma and Alyssa; Jaeden and Valentina; Jordyn; Juliana; and Mayla

Welcome to the eighth installment of Mighty Minds of McVey! Our first guests were Emma, Naomi, and Alexa. These girls created a wonderful project all about cotton candy! They shared some SWEET facts about this delicious treat, and decorated their project with the classic colors of cotton candy: pink and blue! We felt ourselves getting cavities just by looking at this delectable project. Our next guest was Dylan. Dylan created a line-graph project in which he graphed the temperatures of Lisbon, Portugal over the course of one week. It was awesome to see Dylan put the skills he is learning about in the classroom to use on this project. It is doubly cool that he did the project on the capital city of his home country! Great job, Dylan! Our next guest was Elson. Elson did a project in which he taught us about chimpanzees. He described what they look like, how they move, and how they convey emotions! This project was CHIMPLY incredible! Our final guests were Dylan and Thiago. These students created a project in which they compared saltwater and freshwater crocodiles. Not only was their information very interesting, their illustrations really tied this whole project together. This project really rocked our crocs off! Great job to everyone who recently appeared on the Get Smart Show. Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check back soon for out next installment of....Mighty Minds of McVey

Welcome to the seventh installment of Mighty Minds of McVey! Our first guest was Luca. Luca created an illustration of himself playing soccer along with a caption saying that he loves playing with his friends. We love when we see our students staying physically active and having fun with others. Maybe next time, Messi and Ronaldo will join Luca and his friends! Our second guest was Anthony. Anthony came in with such an unbelievably sweet picture. He drew the McVey logo and wrote "thank you for having us at McVey." No, no Anthony-- thank YOU for being such a wonderful student and gracing our building with your presence. It would not be the same without you! Our third guests were Asiya, Nadine, and Adrianna. These absolute cuties came down to show off their artwork, which included gingerbread men, who were adorable enough to eat, and a picturesque landscape of a farm. These girls definitely have a future in the art business. Our final guest was Chloe. Chloe brought in her project on the states of matter. She provided wonderful information about the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Science is such an important subject, and we were thrilled when Chloe walked in with her project. Remember everyone: science.....MATTERS! Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check back soon for our next installment of....Mighty Minds of McVey!!

Welcome to the sixth installment of Mighty Minds of McVey! Our first guests were Luca and Mia. These students decided to show off their artwork on the Get Smart Show. Their artwork consisted of a beautifully drawn princess (Pixar, contact McVey if you need animators) and the logos of the New York Islanders and the New York Mets. A Knicks picture (a Knickture) would have been a great addition to the collection, but we are still highly impressed with these pieces of art. Go Luca and Mia! Our next guest was Patrick. Patrick is a first grader who wanted to show off his advanced abilities in math. Patrick created a project in which he solved challenging addition and multiplication problems; multiplication isn't even taught in first grade! Patrick was a wonderful.....ADDITION to this Get Smart Show! Our final guests were Randon and Victoria. Randon shared the Russian alphabet on the show, and Victoria displayed her picture that says "Together Forever" and shows different people of the world holding hands. Inclusivity and celebrating our differences are two pillars that McVey stands on; these little ones are clearly taking these values to heart. Thanks Randon and Victoria! Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check back soon for our next installment of....Mighty Minds of McVey!!

Patriotic Post of the Week! We are back with some more wonderful Mighty Minds showing their patriotism during the Pledge of Allegiance. This week, we were lucky to have two wonderful fourth graders, Uskana and Ana, stop by to hold the flag. As you can see by the Chromebooks in their hands, these girls were busy getting smart, but knew that an opportunity to demonstrate their patriotism on the school's webpage was too enticing to pass up! We also had Claire, Sarah, Grace, and Gianna-- looking fantastic in their Lunar New Year outfits-- stop by. Celebrating two countries at once not only demonstrates why the diversity at McVey is so awesome, but also proves that people should not only love the country in which they live, but they should also honor the countries from which they and their families have come from. Mason, a wonderful fifth grade, also stopped by to hold the flag high. Just look at that hair on Mason; I bet it waves just as nicely as the flag! Our final flag holder was Leslie. Leslie's red outfit was just such a perfect fit with the flag that we had to make sure we got a pic with the both of them together. As always, thank you to everyone who stopped by to pose with the flag!

Welcome to the fifth installment of Mighty Minds of McVey! Our first guest was Aleyna. Aleyna chose to "get smart through art" by creating a wonderful drawing of an ice cream cone. If you look closely, you can see that Aleyna has the ice-cream scoops saying positive things such as, "be kind", "be helpful", and "be nice". Sounds more like NICE cream to us! Seeing our students spread positive messages such as these always makes us so proud. Our next guest was Odalys. Odalys used her mighty mind to show us just how great she is doing with her times tables; she hasn't even started learning them in class yet! We always encourage our students to push themselves and take on challenges; it is clear that Odalys is taking this message seriously. We definitely hope to see Odalys on the show many more TIMES. Our final guest was Logan. Logan decided to use his designing prowess for his "get smart" project. Logan created a paper airplane out of nothing more than a few pieces of paper and some crayons. I'm sure if we were to throw this plane, it would fly non-stop for at least five hours. Let's just hope the tickets for Logan's plane are cheaper than that of some of the more known airlines! #flyLoganAir Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check back soon for our next installment of......Mighty Minds of McVey!

Patriotic Post of the Week! We know it has been quite some time since we have posted our last patriotic post, but we are back in action and ready to display that nationalistic cheer that is inside all of us here at McVey. Our first picture is of Elaine and Ryan. Just look how well these little ones were holding the flag; great job guys! Next up are Briar Rose and Bella. These adorable girls just couldn't contain their patriotic energy when holding the flag in their photo. Our next picture is of Lauren, Mia, and Macie. These fifth-graders did a wonderful job demonstrating to the little ones how important it is to show one's pride in their country. Our final picture is of Jemimah. Just look at how high she is holding that flag; she looks just like Lady Liberty! A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to pose with our wonderful flag. Stay tuned for the next installment of the Patriotic Post of the Week!

Welcome to the fourth installment of Mighty Minds of McVey! Our first guests were Alexa, Brianna, Diana, and Jared. This great group of students decided to do some research on one of the greatest ships to ever sail the ocean: The Titanic. The group included facts about the ship's proportions, as well as information about the unforgettable Titanic tragedy. It is so wonderful to see our students interested in an event that happened over a century before they were born. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet would be unbelievably proud of this stellar project. Our next guest was artistic youngster, Victoria. When Victoria walked in with her beautiful depiction of the Egyptian pyramids, we could not help but exclaim, "PharOH MY GOODNESS!" The details in the cacti, the beautiful usage of colors for the sand and water, and the size of that sun clearly indicate that Victoria is an artist on the rise. We can't wait to see what she does next! Our final guest was Hope. Hope came in with not one, but two Mighty Mind projects; way to go, Hope! Her first project was her artistic rendering of the McVey logo, surrounded by rules that us Mighty Minds live by. Rules such as being a bucket filler, not retaliating, and always doing the right thing seem to be imbedded in Hope's mind. Hope also created a project about baby horses, and who doesn't like baby horses?? We sure HOPE that we are visited again by the awesome Hope! Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check back soon for our next installment of....Mighty Minds of McVey!
