Academic Entertainment visited Barnum Woods today to present “Supermarket Science”! The students in grades K-5 were excited about the wonders of science and were intrigued to find out what the presenter was going to show them next! During this interactive STEM assembly, students learned about chemical reactions, air pressure, inertia, and potential and kinetic energy with basic pantry items! There were many "Oooohs" and "Ahhhs" and lots of laughs at this fun and entertaining assembly! Thank you to our Barnum Woods' PTA for bringing this amazing assembly to the students of Barnum Woods!

Performers from the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College visited Barnum Woods to present the “Power of the Pit” assemblies! The "Power of the Pit" explored the captivating world of Broadway, a global icon known for its vibrant heartbeat of New York City. The heartbeat of Broadway comes from underneath the stage, in the pit orchestra. In "Power of the Pit", artists deconstructed how music is made in Musical Theater. Musical Theater is the magical combination of dramatic storytelling, punctuated, and elevated by the music that accompanies it. "Power of the Pit" invited our students in grades 2-5 to journey behind the curtain and beneath the stage to discover the magic that brings Broadway shows to life! 🎭

A huge THANK YOU to the members of East Meadow High School's National Art Honor Society for teaming up with the Barnum Woods Spirit Squad and taking the time to paint these amazing BOBCAT PAW PRINTS on the walkway of Barnum Woods School! Their incredible work is much appreciated, and the Barnum students and staff LOVE the new look!

The second graders turned Barnum Woods into a Living Museum on V.I.P. Day! Students completed research projects on famous people, past and present, and showcased their research to the V.I.P.s, while dressed head to toe as these well-known figures!

"A Perfect Parrot Afternoon!"
The Barnum Woods K-Kids Club, led by the K-Kids Teacher Supervisor, Mrs. Melody Schiller, recently hosted a book drive at Barnum Woods.
The K-Kids would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support of the "Big Book It, Bobcats," Book Drive. With everyone's help, over 2,500 books were collected!
The over 2,500 books from the Big Book Drive have been donated to:
- NUMC Children's Ward
- KPTC at Cohens Children’s Hospital
and Ronald McDonald House
- Big Chief Nursery School
- Firehouse Nursery School
- Scope PreSchool
- Cavalry School
- Children’s Learning Center
- Hempstead P.E.A.C.E. After School Program
- The Book Fairies
Congratulations to the winning class, Mr. Lupo & Mrs. Carrique's 3rd grade class, who donated 384 books!
As the 3rd grade was the grade that donated the most books, 723 books, the Barnum Woods K-Kids invited the entire 3rd grade to participate in the special assembly for the class and grade who donated the most books for the book drive, presented by Mrs. Kirichenko and her pet parrot, Caesar!
Mrs. Kirichenko presented the third grade with amazing facts and information about Scarlet Macaws and parrots, in general, as she had her Scarlet Macaw, Caesar, there with her to help demonstrate some of these interesting facts to the students.
After the presentation, students were invited to ask questions, and boy, were there many! Caesar was a big hit, and everyone wanted to know as much as they could about this lovable and entertaining macaw!
As the winning class of the book drive, the students in Mr. Lupo & Mrs. Carrique's class were so excited to each take home a molted feather of Caesar's to keep as a "lucky feather"!
It was the "perfect parrot afternoon" for all of the third graders... and their teachers too!

“BARNUM RUNS ON RESPECT”
The students at Barnum Woods have been exploring the essence of RESPECT, capturing its importance through their thoughtful words and actions. Children are pledging to uphold respect as not just a principle, but a way of life. Each class in grades K-5 created posters to share their thoughts and experiences related to the character trait, RESPECT. Together, we can create a world where kindness, empathy, and dignity flourish!

Congratulations to all of our talented and creative 2024 PARP Bookmark Contest winners!! We are so proud of all of you and want to thank all of the students who participated in Ms. Guglielmo’s Annual PARP Bookmark Contest!

KINDNESS IS A CHAIN REACTION!
The Barnum Bobcats wrote acts of kindness that they performed at home or in school on strips of paper and linked them together to create a class chain. We connected all of the clas chains to link our school together in kindness.
Our chain demonstrates how our individual acts of kindness have the power to inspire others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of positivity in our school.
