Ms. Cronin's 4th graders put their problem-solving and teamwork skills to the test in a STEM challenge called Save Fred! Using only paper clips, students had to work together to get Fred the gummy worm safely into his gummy life saver. With lots of creativity, communication, and laughter, they learned the power of collaboration while having fun!

The children in Mrs. Berry‘s kindergarten class celebrated the first day of fall with a culminating activity to their apples unit. The children had fun, recognizing the parts of an apple and labeling it. In math, they worked with Play-Doh to create apples to put on their apple trees and in their bushels on work mats. They read many fictional and informational books about apples. They put apples in size order. They observed apples using their five senses and recorded their answers. Lastly, the children tasted red, green, and yellow apples to decide which one they liked best! A class book was created for their library about their favorite colored apples. The children had fun learning all about apples, and a good time was had by all!

Congratulations to our first Book Vending Machine WINNERS!! Reading is a passport to countless adventures! Enjoy your new books!

Remembering September 11, 2001. It was a sea of red, white, and blue on the front lawn of Barnum Woods School this morning as students and staff gathered together for a Patriot Day Ceremony, honoring those who were lost on 9/11 and thanking all of our 9/11 heroes. The Barnum Woods Principal, Mrs. Sagnelli, began the ceremony explaining the definition of a patriot. Mrs. Alfano, Assitant Principal at Barnum Woods, spoke of the bravery that the first responders demonstrated on this tragic day, and followed with a moment of silence. The Student Council President , Massimo, shared a beautiful acrostic poem describing the word hero, and the American flag was then raised for the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Jordana, the Student Council Vice President. The flag was then lowered at half-staff, and music teacher, Mrs. Hughes, along with her fifth grade Brioso, sang an inspiring rendition of the United States National Anthem. The students and staff of Barnum Woods will never forget 9/11/01.
