Students in Mr. Longo’s 5th grade class are learning how to use a taxonomy to boost their writing! By choosing more precise and powerful words, students added depth, detail, and personality to their writing. Small word choices can make a BIG difference! @emeadowschools

What a fun-filled day in kindergarten! Ms. Guglielmo’s students explored the life cycle of an apple, tested apple buoyancy, learned about the parts of an apple & Johnny Appleseed, & enjoyed a tasty treat! Their favorite activity? Making an apple volcano! @emeadowschools

Remembering September 11, 2001. Students in Mrs. Berry's 4th grade class created a paper quilt to honor those who were lost on 9/11 and to thank all of our 9/11 heroes They were inspired by the beautiful quilt that was created by our Barnum students 25 years ago. @emeadowschools

25 Years Later - Remembering September 11, 2001. It was a sea of red, white, and blue on the front lawn of Barnum Woods School this morning as students and staff gathered together for a Patriot Day Ceremony, honoring those who were lost on 9/11 and thanking all of our 9/11 heroes. The Barnum Woods Principal, Mrs. Sagnelli, began the ceremony explaining the definitions of patriot and hero. Mr. Burgess, Assistant Principal of Barnum Woods, spoke of simple but meaningful ways that students can make a positive difference in our world, school, and community. They were encouraged to include others, show kindness, lend a helping hand, and look for opportunities to make someone’s day a little better. The Student Council President , Mackenzie, shared a beautiful patriotic acrostic poem, and the American flag was then raised for the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Michael, the Student Council Vice President. The flag was then lowered at half-staff, and there was a moment of silence to honor all of those who were lost on this tragic day. Following this moment, music teacher, Mrs. Hughes, along with her fifth grade Brioso, sang an inspiring rendition of the United States National Anthem. The students and staff of Barnum Woods will NEVER FORGET 9/11/01.

Celebrating International Week at Barnum! Our students were excited to share their native languages on the morning announcements by teaching everyone how to say certain phrases, such as "Good Morning" and "Have a Great Day! Some of the languages we learned were Spanish, Chinese, Urdu, Russian, and Crimean Tatar! We love celebrating the cultures and languages that make our community shine!

Barnum Woods School was filled with red, white, and blue spirit as students and staff gathered to celebrate Flag Day! The celebration was a wonderful way to honor our American flag and everything it stands for. Mr. Schaefer and the 5th Grade Band members played a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem. Mrs. Hughes and her Brioso proudly sang some of our favorite patriotic songs, filling the air with excitement and pride. One of the highlights of the ceremony was watching the color guard raise the flag with great care and respect as the entire school looked on. Everyone joined together to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and learn more about the meaning of the American flag, its history, and the values of freedom, courage, and unity it represents. The smiles, singing, and sense of community made the event especially memorable. It was a joyful celebration that reminded us how proud we are to be Americans and how important it is to honor the symbols and traditions that bring us together. Flag Day at Barnum Woods was truly a star-spangled success!

Our 5th Grade Field Day was a wonderful success! The weather was beautiful, making it the perfect day for students to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and friendly competition, while parents watched from the sidelines and cheered on their children! Students had a great time participating in exciting events coordinated by our amazing physical education teachers, including potato sack races and the always-popular tug-of-war. One of the highlights of the day was watching Mrs. Sagnelli, our principal, and Mrs. Alfano, our assistant principal, join in the fun and take part in the tug-of-war alongside the students. Laughter, teamwork, and school spirit filled the air as everyone enjoyed this special day together. Fifth Grade Field Day was a memorable celebration of fun, friendship, and community for all!
