Mrs. Renter’s 3rd graders earned 1st place in this year’s PARP (Pick A Reading Partner) contest by reading the most minutes read in the entire school! To celebrate their achievement, the class enjoyed a fun popsicle party outside with their classmates and teacher. @emeadowschools
The 4th graders had an exciting opportunity to visit the 5th Grade Invention Convention and explore the creative projects designed by their older peers. As they walked from display to display, the 5th graders proudly explained their inventions, shared the problems they were trying to solve, and demonstrated how their ideas worked. The younger students asked thoughtful questions and were inspired by the creativity, teamwork, and innovation on display. It was a wonderful experience that encouraged curiosity and gave the 4th graders a glimpse of what they can look forward to creating in the future. @emeadowschools

Our talented advanced band, advanced orchestra, and 4th & 5th grade chorus took the stage for our annual spring concert! From soaring melodies to toe-tapping tunes and powerful harmonies, our performers brought down the house! So proud of all our young musicians! @emeadowschools

Physical Fitness Day of Wellness Week! Students enjoyed relaxing and energizing yoga sessions with our very own yoga instructor, Mrs. Keicher! The activities encouraged mindfulness, flexibility, and healthy movement while students were able to unwind and focus. @emeadowschools

In computer class, after reading Once Upon a Time Online, the 3rd graders reviewed the importance of having adult supervision when going online! The 4th graders created their own digital footprints after reading Technology Tail: A Digital Footprint Story with Mrs. Kirichenko!
The EMSD partnered with LICADD again this year to provide a presentation to raise awareness about the dangers of vaping, inform our 5th graders about the risks to their health, and provide them with strategies to avoid using e-cigarettes and other vaping products.

“If You Give a Mouse a Phone…” These 2nd graders enjoyed this entertaining read-aloud in computer class with Mrs. Kirichenko on Unplugged Day! Inspired by the events of the story, students wrote their own device adventure stories and shared them with the class!
Unplugged Day means computer classes with NO computers! Mrs. Kirichenko had her 5th graders rethinking coding in a whole new way! Communicating with details was the focus. Students drew images based on their partners' detailed descriptions! The results were quite impressive!
Congratulations and thank you to Mrs. Pellegrino’s 5th grade class for donating the most shoes for our annual PMT Shoe Drive! The school donated a total of 3,086 pairs of shoes with Mrs. Pellegrino’s students donating 339 of those pairs! The shoes are donated to Wearable Collections, an organization that collects and donates the shoes depending on level of wear to people in need both locally and all over the world and to repurposing any unwearable shoes for playground materials. These smiling students celebrated with a delicious breakfast with Mrs. Sagnelli, Mrs. Alfano, PMT members, Mr. Weinstein and Mrs. Goldstein, and special guest, Nassau County Legislator, Tom McKevitt. During the celebration, Nassau County Legislator, Tom McKevitt, presented our assistant principal, Mrs. Alfano, with a Legislative Citation of Merit to recognize her many years of dedication and outstanding contributions to Barnum Woods School and community. Congratulations to Mrs. Alfano on this well-deserved honor!

Mrs. Gordon's 1st grade students have been busy bees during the month of May! They used shapes to create images showing imagination and teamwork! They learned about the parts of a plant by labeling them, wrote steps explaining how to grow a plant, and are enjoying planting and watching their flowers grow! Finally, they worked so hard to earn a PJ and plushie day! The students loved enjoying a cozy DEAR time while cuddling with their plushie friends!

The BWPTA truly outdid themselves providing a delicious luncheon for the BW staff for Staff Appreciation Week! It was a complete smorgasbord with so many amazing dishes from which to choose! Thank you, BWPTA, for a spectacular luncheon and for the awesome BW Bobcat coasters!
In Room 155, Mr. Lupo & Mrs. Carrique's third grade students worked hard on their special Mother’s Day gifts. They are also doing a great job raising their Painted Lady butterflies.
