This past weekend, the East Meadow High School Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to perform at the National Jazz Festival. Both groups performed exceptionally well for audiences and judges, alike. They competed against some of the nation’s top high school jazz programs, with both ensembles participating in adjudicated performances. In addition, the Jazz Ensemble completed a full-band sight-reading component, and the Basement Blues jazz combo of Daniel Ramirez, Sofiia Nosarieva, Matea Pribanic, Michael Bodzin, and Caleb Roy performed a set, as well.
A special congratulations to Michael Bodzin, who earned one of the festival’s highest individual honors, being named Most Outstanding Musician for his drum set performances. Congratulations as well to Caleb Roy and Annaclelia Barbieri for being recognized as standout performers in their ensembles. Congratulations to all of our talented jazz musicians!

Ms. Luciano’s NY NY classes spent the day exploring the World Trade Center

The Jets defeated Oceanside yesterday in a comeback win by a score of 4-3. Kyle Francis got the win by pitching 6 innings, striking out 9 batters and allowing only one earned run. Trevor Smith got the save by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Matt Amy had 2 rbi, including a fielder's choice that knocked in Chris Amodeo for the go ahead run in the 6th inning for the Jets. The Jets take on Massapequa next week.
East Meadow softball defeated Bellmore JFK 7-1. Grace Moone pitched a complete game with 8 strike outs. Allison Barnwell led the Jets with 3 hits while Gianna Venture played amazingly in center field. Arianna Rosa, Ginna Venture Ashley Lipack each had multiple hits. Emma Smith and Gabriella Shephard each drove in runs to help secure the win. Go Jets!
The Boys Varsity Tennis team defeated Bethpage yesterday, 4–3. Standout victories came from Dennis Calu, who went 2–0 at first singles, Max Shafran, who went 2–0 at second singles, and Sebastian Campbell, who went 2–0 in his debut singles match. The doubles team of Oscar Lin and Joe Benedetto clinched the match with a 2–1 third-set victory.
The girls JV Badminton team beat Long Beach 5-2 to go 2 & 0 on the season. There were strong showings by Vivian Jiang and Jessica Philipose in singles play. Also showing strong performances were Erika Qu, Elle Fong, Rebecca Simon, Ahsley Zheng, Abby Gan, and Sarah George during doubles play. Keep up the good work girls!

Today, on the EMHS explores Europe tour, our students took a high-speed hydrofoil to cross the Bay of Naples to Capri, the Island of Dreams. Upon arriving on the island, they took the funicular past subtropical gardens to the main square. They had time to explore through the narrow lanes and shop in the tiny artisan stores that line the square. they also saw the entrance to the Roman ruins of Emperor Tiberius's Villa.

The boy’s varsity tennis team delivered a dominant performance yesterday, sweeping Oyster Bay 7–0. In singles play, Dennis Calu, Max Shafran, and Oscar Lin each secured 2–0 victories. The doubles teams of Zikria Said & Ethan Sam, Aaron Ni & Abishai Francis, and Dhairya Khanna & Ali Imam also had 2–0 wins. Sebastian Campbell & Joe Benedetto sealed the sweep in an exciting tiebreak to earn a 2–1 victory. An all-around strong showing for the Jets!
Yesterday the girls' JV Badminton team won their first match of the season in dominating fashion with a 7-0 win over Island Trees. Vivian Jiang, Jessica Philipose, and Olivia Lee all had strong showings in their singles matches. While Erika Qu, Elle Fong, Novia Zhang, Amelie Cao, Abby Gan, Sarah George, Rebecca Simon, and Ashley Zheng showed team strength by winning all doubles matches. Keep up the great work girls!
The East Meadow Baseball defeated Farmingdale yesterday by a score of 8-3. Junior Matt Esslinger held the Dalers to one run over 4 innings, striking out 6 to earn the win. Senior Ryan Jacobs blasted a triple with the bases loaded to knock in 3 runs in the first inning. Freshman Aayden Marquiz went 1 for 3 knocking in 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th giving the Jets insurance runs for the win.

It was a true full team effort, with the Jets hitting all of their game goals. Leading the offense, Ariana Facenda had an outstanding performance with 4 goals and 4 caused turnovers. Jessica Stump added 3 goals and 1 assist, while Kayla Lederer contributed 2 goals and 2 assists. Kate Barnett tallied 1 goal and 3 assists.
