Eighth grade American Sign Language students at Woodland Middle School in East Meadow, along with their teachers Mrs. Kaminsky and Mrs. Woo, recently met with a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter via Zoom.
Three-time NCAA Division III National Wrestling Champion and MMA fighter Matt Hamill met with students and teachers to share stories about his life and career. Students watched a documentary about Hamill growing up deaf prior to meeting him. During the meeting, students learned more about how he overcame barriers and his personal journey to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
In the end, students were able to ask Hamill questions in ASL about his life and his personal experiences.
